John Wigger

John Wigger is a professor of history at the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri. He holds a BS in petroleum engineering from West Virginia University, an MA from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a PhD from the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of Taking Heaven by Storm: Methodism and the Rise of Popular Christianity in America (Oxford, 1998); American Saint: Francis Asbury and the Methodists (Oxford, 2009); and, most recently, PTL: The Rise and Fall of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker’s Evangelical Empire (Oxford, 2017).
